The Gnosis community supports the continued funding of Gnosis VPN, confirmed by a vote allocating an additional $4.8 million. The new development phase includes the creation of a privacy-preserving application.
Gnosis VPN Development Plan
The development of Gnosis VPN began last year through a partnership with HOPR, who are building the application in-house. In exchange for $1.5 million in funding, Gnosis would receive a significant share in the HOPR treasury. The development is divided into two phases: a 12-month proof-of-concept and a further two-year development of a full-fledged product.
Technical Aspects and Further Development
Currently, Gnosis VPN is a browser extension that allows users to interact securely within the Gnosis ecosystem. Additional funding will support research into cryptography and the development of mobile and desktop apps, as well as the expansion of the HOPR network to thousands of nodes. Further work is needed to ensure decentralized technology and incentive structures.
Funding and Commercial Aspects
Gnosis will allocate $4.8 million over two years, along with an additional 500 GNO grant to encourage new node runners. HOPR is offering the DAO a 30% discount on HOPR tokens, calculated based on a 90-day average price post each payment. Gnosis VPN and HOPR are developed as free and open-source technology with no traditional business model. The value produced by the service will accrue to node runners, including Gnosis Chain validators via gas fees and HOPR mixnet.
Gnosis is significantly contributing to the future of decentralized VPN services by supporting the development of Gnosis VPN and HOPR. The community anticipates that further development will bring substantial technological and economic benefits.
