Hackers Target Crypto Project Discord Channels: What Happened

  4. From August 24 to 30, five crypto companies were hacked on their Discord channels. Crypto projects Witness Chain, Polygon, Avalanche, Zksync, and Orderly Network were attacked by hackers using fake links to compromise the channels.

    The Case of Witness Chain

    Today, on August 30, the blockchain project Witness Chain became the fifth target of hackers. The Discord channel of Witness Chain was hacked through fake links. Core contributor Pankaj Agarwal warned channel members through his X account. His warning was also accompanied by dubious spam pointing to a suspicious X account for the recovery process.

    Other Platform Hacks

    The channels of Polygon, Avalanche, Zksync, and Orderly Network were hacked earlier on August 24, 25, and 29. All these channels were compromised in the same way, using fake links. The Polygon Discord channel was hacked on August 24 using phishing links. Chief Security Officer Mehta Gupta warned members not to click on any links to avoid further hacks. One user lost $150,000 as a result. Within 48 hours of the Polygon incident, the Avalanche and Zksync channels experienced similar hacks through fake links.

    Security Recovery Measures

    The teams of the affected platforms acted quickly to recover their channels and have successfully restored them.

    The hacker attacks on the Discord channels of crypto platforms are a serious issue that demands urgent attention and enhanced security measures. These platforms continue to work on recovery and strengthening the protection of their channels.
