On June 30, 2025, Hut 8 Corp. completed the initial energization of its Vega data center in Texas, aimed at high-performance Bitcoin mining.
Technical Overview of Vega
The data center spans 162,000 square feet and has a total energy capacity of 205 megawatts. Vega is set to realize up to 15 exahashes per second (EH/s) of computing power, making it one of the largest standalone mining operations by nominal hashrate. The company noted that this expansion aligns with its strategy to integrate digital infrastructure with reliable energy resources.
Energy Efficiency Solutions
Vega employs a liquid cooling system that circulates over 120,000 gallons of glycol-water mixture through 96 modules. This system operates on a closed-loop model, helping reduce overall water usage. The infrastructure is designed to improve thermal management and enhance operational uptime in high-temperature conditions.
Bitcoin Mining Market in Texas
Texas is becoming a strategically significant location for Bitcoin mining, with estimates suggesting that it could host 15% to 20% of the global hashrate. Despite environmental pressures and high temperatures, companies continue to build and expand operations in the region, including Marathon Digital, which is developing a new mining-optimized grid network.
The launch of the Vega data center highlights the growing interest and investments in Bitcoin mining in Texas. New technologies and scalable solutions are expected to contribute to the sustainable development of the industry.
