Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha raised the topic of artificial intelligence, calling for India to respond to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's negative remarks.
Parliament Speech
During a session in the upper house (Rajya Sabha), Raghav Chadha criticized remarks made by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who described India's potential in AI as 'hopeless'. Chadha emphasized that India needs to prove itself as not just a consumer but also a producer of AI technology.
Government Demands
Chadha also questioned the government's readiness in comparison to countries like the US and China, which are developing indigenous AI models like ChatGPT, Gemini, and DeepSeek. He urged for a 'Make AI in India' approach and investment in the sector.
Challenges and Prospects
According to Chadha, from 2010 to 2022, India registered only 0.5% of AI patents, while the share of the US and China stands at 60% and 20%, respectively. Despite having a wealth of talented professionals, a significant number of Indian AI professionals work abroad.
Raghav Chadha has called for active measures to establish India as a leading force in AI, not just as a consumer but as a major player in the global artificial intelligence technology market.
