Infini faced a $50 million theft, leading the company to take legal actions and use blockchain technology to serve notice to suspects.
The $50 Million Theft Incident
On February 24, several platforms reported a suspected breach at Infini, resulting in the loss of approximately $49.5 million in USDC. Initially regarded as a hacking attack, it was later revealed that a former Infini developer was responsible. The stolen funds were transferred from a multisig wallet to the developer's personal account.
Blockchain Used for Legal Notice
Infini adopted an unusual method to notify suspects of impending legal action—by sending a message directly onto the blockchain. This notice named developer Chen Shaxuan and three unidentified individuals who allegedly had access to wallets linked to the theft.
New Legal Frontiers
This case is not the first instance of Hong Kong utilizing blockchain for legal action. Earlier this year, a court tagged suspicious wallets on Tron with 'digital police tape', effectively making any transactions with them illegal.
The use of blockchain technology in legal practice opens up new opportunities for law enforcement in combating cybercrime and securing assets.
