Metaplanet, a Japanese investment firm, announced the acquisition of additional bitcoins, highlighting the company's aggressive strategy in the cryptocurrency space.
New Bitcoin Purchase
On July 14, 2025, the Tokyo-based company announced the purchase of 797 bitcoins for approximately $93.6 million. This move solidifies their focus on a bitcoin-centric treasury strategy. The average price paid for each bitcoin was $117,451.
Metaplanet's Accumulation Strategy
Metaplanet currently holds 16,352 bitcoins at a total acquisition cost of about $1.64 billion, with an average purchase price of $100,191. CEO Simon Gerovich stated that the aim is to accumulate as much bitcoin as possible. "We need to accumulate as much bitcoin as we can before we move to the second phase of our strategy," he said.
Market Position and Company Goals
Despite the significant number of bitcoins purchased, Metaplanet is still striving for its long-term goal of acquiring 100,000 bitcoins by the end of 2026 and 1% of bitcoin's total circulating supply by 2027. The firm's increasing trading volume has made it one of the top performers in the Japanese stock market this year.
Metaplanet continues to expand its bitcoin holdings, focusing on aggressive accumulation, allowing the company to maintain a strong position in the stock market and garner attention for its strategies.
