Entrepreneur Jed McCaleb, known for founding crypto projects, has shared details about his ambitious space company Vast, which aims to launch the commercial space station Haven-1 by 2026.
Vast's Development and Haven-1 Launch
In an interview with Bloomberg, Jed McCaleb confirmed that work on the Haven-1 space station is progressing, with a launch aimed for May 2026. A successful launch would position Vast to secure a contract to replace the International Space Station, expected in mid-2026.
Collaboration with SpaceX and Competition
Vast is collaborating with SpaceX to develop its spacecraft, with former SpaceX personnel like Max Haot now serving as CEO of Vast. The company has already booked SpaceX flights to send crew and hardware. Vast faces competition from companies like Axiom Space, Voyager Space Holdings, and Blue Origin for the NASA contract.
Long-term Visions and McCaleb's Past Achievements
McCaleb plans to create artificial gravity conditions for long-term missions and hopes to incorporate advanced technologies in future projects like Haven-2. Known for founding Mt. Gox and co-founding Ripple, McCaleb also launched Stellar network and the XLM token in 2014.
Jed McCaleb and his team continue to work on ambitious projects, aiming to extend human activity beyond Earth. If successful, Vast could become a leader in next-generation commercial space ventures.
