Nelli Zaltsman, head of blockchain innovation at JPMorgan, expressed her opinion that decentralized finance (DeFi) and traditional finance (TradFi) may converge in the coming years.
Perspectives on DeFi and TradFi
Zaltsman presented her views at the RWA Summit Cannes 2025 and noted that JPMorgan is striving to merge institutional-grade payment infrastructure with new blockchain assets. She stated, 'Our goal has always been to find the best way to work with the public blockchain, regulatory environment permitting.'
Technological Innovations by JPMorgan
Recently, JPMorgan piloted synchronized settlement technology with Chainlink, allowing for cross-blockchain transaction management. This marked initial steps toward integrating traditional capital with digital assets. Zaltsman noted that even a decade ago, the bank had to create its own private blockchain. Currently, according to her, many more tools are available.
Impact on the Financial Sector
Sergey Nazarov, co-founder of Chainlink Labs, emphasized that JPMorgan's involvement could influence other banks and industries to develop new solutions. He also highlighted the importance of cryptographic means to provide reliability for smaller counterparties, potentially leading to innovations in financial services.
Experts believe that the convergence of traditional and decentralized finance could occur faster than anticipated, driven by increased collaboration among market participants and improvements in infrastructure.
