Kaspa, a scalable proof-of-work blockchain, approaches a major network upgrade, marking a critical point for the platform's future.

Network Upgrade on the Horizon

Kaspa's Crescendo Hardfork stands as a key milestone. Since March 2025, Testnet-10 (TN10) has been operating at 10 blocks per second and undergoing extensive community testing. According to the official Kaspa Twitter account, the mainnet upgrade is planned for late April 2025, with potential adjustment to early May based on testnet performance. This upgrade signifies a tenfold increase from Kaspa's current 1 block per second, aiming to deliver faster transaction confirmations while maintaining the security benefits of PoW consensus.

Scaling Smart Contracts

The Crescendo Hardfork unlocks new opportunities for Kaspa's ecosystem. KRC-20 and KRC-721 standards, developed and tested on Testnet-11 since January 2024, will merge with speed improvements validated on Testnet-10 when the mainnet scales to 10 blocks per second. With zkEVM integration finalizing transactions on Layer 2, Kaspa aims to rival Ethereum's functionality while keeping PoW security. Future upgrades target higher throughput with the DAGKnight protocol optimizing blockDAG consensus for enhanced performance.

Market Position and Community Outlook

Kaspa's 'Made in USA' CoinMarketCap tag boosts visibility as U.S. policies on PoW cryptocurrencies change, fueling pre-upgrade interest. This classification coincides with the anticipated network upgrade, attracting additional attention to the project. With $KAS gaining popularity in crypto discussions, enthusiasts see it potentially challenging established PoW cryptocurrencies by late 2025. As Bitcoin's market dominance shows signs of decline, some community members suggest that Kaspa could become a notable alternative.

Kaspa's planned late April 2025 upgrade to 10 blocks per second could redefine PoW scalability. With Testnet-11 pioneering smart contracts and Testnet-10 operating successfully, Kaspa merges speed and security, heralding a new era for the crypto market.
