A recent incident involving the kidnapping of a crypto trader in France has garnered public and law enforcement attention.
Trader's Abduction
A 26-year-old crypto trader known for creating content on TikTok was kidnapped on Friday night in Juvisy-sur-Orge. The abductors demanded €50,000 ($57,000) in cryptocurrency. They forcibly placed him in a stolen vehicle and beat him. However, the trader was released the following day after he showed the kidnappers that he lacked sufficient funds to meet their demands.
Rise in Crypto Kidnappings
There has been an increase in kidnappings related to cryptocurrencies in France this year. This prompted the country's interior minister to meet with crypto entrepreneurs to discuss security concerns. In recent incidents, there have also been attempts to kidnap family members of notable crypto entrepreneurs.
Investigation of the Incident
France's Organized and Specialized Crime Division is currently investigating the incident. The trader has been granted six days of work incapacity benefits. Police have also made several arrests related to the kidnapping of other crypto entrepreneurs.
