The "Light Up Africa" project, jointly initiated by KuCoin, Global CSR, and the Smiling Simon Greenbuild Foundation, aims to improve educational conditions for African children by installing solar lamps.
Launch of the "Light Up Africa" Project
This charitable project was initiated at the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in 2023. KuCoin committed to supporting social initiatives during the "KuCoin Green Future Dinner" attended by over 200 guests from around the world. In 2024, KuCoin continued to fulfill its social responsibilities by launching a series of impactful public welfare projects, among which "Light Up Africa" holds a prominent position.
Implementation and Outcomes
The project provides children in rural African areas without electricity the chance to study at night with solar lamps. In February 2024, the first batch of 2,500 lamps was delivered to 25 schools in Nigeria. By October 2024, an additional 7,200 lamps were distributed to various communities in Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and Ghana, benefitting more children.
Social Impact and Future Plans
Dr. Anita Nana Okuribido from the Smiling Simon Greenbuild Foundation noted significant improvements in learning conditions for local children. Zhao Jing, Chairman of Global CSR, emphasized that the project has greatly increased children's motivation to learn. According to Nancy Cheung, KuCoin's Chief Sustainability Officer, "Light Up Africa" is a key step in advancing the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals. KuCoin will continue to support education and innovation.
The "Light Up Africa" project has become a significant part of KuCoin's social influence, contributing to improved educational conditions and supporting sustainable development in African countries.
