Kurant, a leading operator of cryptocurrency ATMs in Europe, announced a temporary halt of operations in Germany while waiting for a new license under EU regulation.
Operations Suspension in Germany
As of July 1, Bitcoin will not be available for purchase at ATMs across Germany. This decision was made due to the need to obtain a license under the new European Union Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) law. All Kurant ATMs in Germany will be paused until the licensing process is completed, with no timeline provided currently. The company's decision stems from significant technical and legal changes required by MiCA.
New Features Post-License Acquisition
Once the MiCA license is secured, Kurant intends to restart its ATMs with new features and offerings. An expansion of the product range and improvements in service quality are expected. This statement was made in light of the company's commitment to adapt to the new conditions and enhance the user experience.
Overall Situation with Crypto ATMs in Europe
Despite the pause in Germany, Kurant will continue operations in other EU countries, including Austria and Spain. The total number of crypto ATMs in Europe has significantly increased over recent years, with over 300 devices operated by Kurant. Currently, Europe has nearly 1,800 crypto ATMs, marking a record for the region.
Meanwhile, users in Germany will be able to complete transactions that were initiated before July 1, but new transactions are unavailable until operations resume. Kurant promises to keep customers updated on all news.
