The Lagos State Government has announced the launch of a digital property identification project aimed at modernizing the addressing process and improving the quality of public services.
Objectives of the Project
Dr. Olajide Babajide, Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos on Enterprise Geographic Information System (e-GIS), stated that the new project aims to address critical issues faced by the government. According to him, the project facilitates swift emergency response, improves address identification, and combats tax evasion. *“This project is about providing Lagosians with the world-class services they truly deserve*,” he remarked.
Testing in Initial Location
The project will first be tested in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area, and upon success, it will expand across all 57 Local Government and Local Council Development Areas. The project is being implemented by trained youth under the Ibile program, which also aids in the verification of data authenticity.
Importance of the Project for Lagos
The Lagos Identity Project comes at a time when the state is experiencing high demand for housing and real estate investments. Reports suggest that 60% of residents are renters, with housing needs exceeding 3.17 million as of 2023. The project aims to improve rental activities and curb fraud by enabling location tracking in densely populated communities.
The successful implementation of the digital property identification project will allow the Lagos government to enhance service delivery for residents and optimize urban resource management, marking an important step towards modernization and effective governance in the megacity.
