Updating Energy Infrastructure
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized the importance of modernizing the country's energy infrastructure. This includes updating 5,700 km of networks crucial for homes and electric vehicles. Lukashenko stated the need to reinforce infrastructure to prevent outages similar to those experienced in the Gomel Region after recent storms.
Cryptocurrency Mining Development
The President also pointed to the possibility of using surplus electricity for cryptocurrency mining. The possibility has been considered before by Belarus' Energy Minister, noting the success of mining industries in countries like China, the USA, Canada, and Russia. Lukashenko proposed attracting investors to mine crypto or establishing state-backed projects in this direction.
Long-term Energy Strategy
Lukashenko stressed the importance of long-term electricity use for heating and hot water supply. As part of this strategy, the construction of a second nuclear power plant is considered. The goal is to meet public demand and ensure a sustainable energy future for Belarus.
