Avi Eisenberg, convicted of fraud and manipulation in the Mango Markets exploit, awaits sentencing in April 2024.
Sentencing Delay
In January, the Southern District of New York court postponed Avi Eisenberg's sentencing to April 2024. Originally scheduled for December 2023, the sentencing was then moved to February 2024, and postponed again. The delay was requested by Eisenberg's legal team due to the complexities of the case, with no objections from the prosecutor.
Mango Markets Case
In October 2022, Eisenberg executed a hack on Mango Markets, extracting over $100 million from the platform. Some of the funds were returned, but over $40 million was retained after a community governance vote. He was arrested in December 2022 and has been in custody for about two years.
Potential Consequences
If given the maximum sentence, Eisenberg could face up to 20 years in prison. Following sentencing, he may also face civil actions from the US Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Both cases were stayed in March 2023.
The fate of Avi Eisenberg and further legal repercussions will become clear after the sentencing in April 2024.
