MapleStory N, a new version of the classic 2003 MMORPG, is developed using the Avalon blockchain and includes non-fungible token concepts and a token-based economy.
The Origins and Goals of the Project
MapleStory N is based on the popular 2003 MMORPG and targets the Web3 gaming market segment. The project aims to succeed by attracting players who feel nostalgic for the original game. Sunyoung Hwang, CEO of Nexpace, is convinced that the nostalgic factor will be key in attracting users and will help distinguish the project from other blockchain games.
Blockchain Technology Integration
MapleStory N addresses several issues of traditional gaming through blockchain technologies. The game uses NFTs and an open token economy, allowing players to earn items exclusively in-game and eliminating 'pay-to-win' models. Hwang added, 'Web3 games need to create fans, not consumers.' The game also features a decentralized marketplace and an item tracking system.
User Test Results and Future Plans
Recently, the project completed a user test with an 82% retention rate. Caps on the number of in-game items and their value being tied to in-game demand will make the game fairer. These measures will help avoid problems associated with the 'pay-to-win' model typical for Web2 games.
MapleStory N aims to change the approach to Web3 gaming by combining nostalgia and cutting-edge blockchain technologies. The main focus is on creating fans, not consumers, which should contribute to the development and future success of the project.
