Maya Harris is the second child of Donald J. Harris and Shyamala Gopalan and the younger sister of Vice President Kamala. Like her sister, Maya is a lawyer and public policy advocate after studying at Stanford University Law School. She has worked as a litigator, law professor, and Dean of Lincoln Law School in San Jose in her early days. She later became the executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) before joining politics like her sister. In her career, she has majorly worked with policy and civil rights, focusing on racial and gender justice. More importantly, Maya served as a senior policy advisor to Hilary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign. She was also the campaign chairman of Kamala Harris’s 2020 unsuccessful bid for the Democratic nominee.

The 57-year-old activist is the mother of Meena Harris and grandmother of Amara and Leela. Maya is known as a great-grandmother because of her constant posts about her granddaughters on social media. Meena is married to Nikolas Ajagu and was a matchmaker for her mom when she was just four. Maya was a teen mom and later met her husband, Tony West. In an interview, Maya revealed that her daughter was playing at her college, which resulted in her meeting Tony.

Kamala is married to Doug Emhoff, a 59-year-old Los Angeles entertainment lawyer. Now, he is fully supporting his wife in her political endeavors.
