Meta sets ambitious goals for 2025, focusing on the metaverse and new mixed reality technologies.

The 'Year of Greatness' Internal Memo

Meta's CTO, Andrew 'Boz' Bosworth, circulated a memo titled '2025: The Year of Greatness' among staff. The document, shared on Meta's internal platform, emphasizes the need to focus on improving sales, retention, and engagement, especially within mixed reality. Bosworth highlighted the importance of success on mobile platforms for Meta's long-term strategy.

Meta's Reality Labs Under Scrutiny

In 2014, Meta acquired Oculus VR, investing over $80 billion in virtual and augmented reality technologies. In 2024 alone, Reality Labs, responsible for Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and Quest VR headsets, saw $19.9 billion in investments. Despite these efforts, the company faced operating losses of $17.7 billion.

Modernization and Restructuring of Reality Labs

To increase efficiency, Meta is restructuring its Reality Labs division. Bosworth referenced Steven Levy's book 'Insanely Great' about the creation of the Macintosh by small teams. Reflecting on these insights, the company announced changes in leadership and reporting structures within Reality Labs.

Meta is making significant bets on the future, aiming to solidify its position in mixed reality and metaverse technologies by 2025.
