The popular Ethereum wallet MetaMask has announced upcoming support for Bitcoin and Solana. This update will ease cryptocurrency management for users.
New Features for MetaMask Users
By mid-2025, MetaMask users will be able to store, send, and trade Bitcoin (BTC) directly within the wallet. Support for Solana is set to be added in May, making it the first non-Ethereum-based blockchain compatible with the platform.
Improving Transactions with MetaMask
MetaMask is implementing a new feature, ERC-5792, allowing users to bundle multiple steps like approving and swapping tokens into a single action. This will reduce clicks, speed up transactions, and lower gas fees. Co-founder Dan Finlay highlighted that this update will make DeFi much smoother and more efficient.
Expansion of MetaMask Debit Card
MetaMask's debit card, already available in the UK and EU, will roll out in select U.S. states by mid-March. This card links directly to a MetaMask wallet, allowing users to spend cryptocurrency wherever Mastercard is accepted.
MetaMask continues to enhance the user experience by adding support for new cryptocurrencies, improving security, and simplifying transactions. These steps make cryptocurrencies more accessible to a wider audience.
