Tokyo-based firm Metaplanet has confirmed its acquisition of 555 bitcoins for $53.4 million, enhancing its holdings in the cryptocurrency sector.
General Information on Bitcoin Purchase
On May 7, Metaplanet announced the purchase on social media, stating an average price of $96,134 per bitcoin. With this transaction, the company now holds 5,555 bitcoins, valued at approximately $481.5 million.
Financing Through Bonds
To fund the purchase, Metaplanet issued $25 million in zero-coupon bonds. This marks the 13th bond issuance by the company, which has raised over $244 million through debt and equity financing throughout 2024.
Expansion into the U.S.
In addition to Bitcoin purchases, Metaplanet is launching a Florida-based subsidiary, Metaplanet Treasury Corp., aiming to raise up to $250 million to support the company's Bitcoin strategy and U.S. operations.
