Metaplanet acquired 1,005 BTC for around $108 million, bringing its total holdings to 13,350 BTC, making it the fifth-largest publicly traded corporate holder of Bitcoin.
Financing and Strategy
CEO Simon Gerovich stated that the average price paid per BTC was approximately $107,601. The purchase was partially financed through the issuance of ¥30 billion ($208 million) in zero-coupon bonds, set to mature in December 2025, aligning with the company's goal to accumulate over 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027.
Corporate Bitcoin Ranking
According to the updated leaderboard, Metaplanet ranks fifth among companies, trailing behind Strategy, Marathon Digital, Twenty One Capital, and Riot Platforms, holding 592,345 BTC, 49,179 BTC, 37,229.7 BTC, and 19,225 BTC respectively.
The recent acquisition has bolstered Metaplanet's assets and had a positive impact on its shares, which rose nearly 10% on the day of the announcement.
