The Japanese investment firm Metaplanet, often dubbed Asia's MicroStrategy, recorded an increase in its Bitcoin holdings by $28 million this year, doubling the company's market valuation.

Metaplanet's Bitcoin Asset Growth

Since mid-2024, Metaplanet focused on acquiring Bitcoin, a move widely discussed in the market. The Q3 financial report shows an increase from 492.82 BTC to 1,018.17 BTC by mid-November. The rise in Bitcoin's value significantly contributed to Metaplanet's market valuation, now exceeding $64 million.

Company's Financial Status

Despite the successful Bitcoin strategy, Metaplanet faces financial challenges, reporting a $2.1 million loss for the first nine months of the year. However, this is an improvement over the $2.7 million loss in the same period in 2023. The company raised more than $26.7 million through bond and stock issuances, supporting its investments.

Cryptocurrency Market Growth

The increase in Bitcoin holdings aligns with a significant rally in the cryptocurrency market. Bitcoin surged by over 138% throughout the year, reaching a record high of $89,000. Despite recent fluctuations due to the US presidential election, analysts anticipate further potential highs.

Metaplanet is strengthening its position as a major corporate Bitcoin holder in Asia, despite financial challenges and market volatility.
