Japanese company Metaplanet has announced the issuance of 2 billion yen bonds to continue its Bitcoin acquisition strategy. This marks the seventh issuance of bonds for such purchases since May 2024.
Metaplanet's Recent Moves
On February 27, Metaplanet announced the issuance of 0% ordinary bonds worth 2 billion yen to purchase Bitcoin. The bonds will be issued in 40 units, each with a face value of 50 million yen, and are redeemable on August 26, 2025. The funds will be allocated to Evo Fund, Metaplanet’s dedicated Bitcoin acquisition fund.
Ongoing Bitcoin Acquisition Strategy
Since May 13, 2024, Metaplanet has purchased Bitcoin on 17 different occasions, including buying 619.7 BTC on December 20, 2024. The company has now accumulated 2,235 BTC, valued at approximately $192.4 million.
Impact on Metaplanet Stock
Since beginning its Bitcoin acquisitions, Metaplanet's stock has surged from 200 yen to 6,650 yen by early 2025, representing a 3,225% increase. Despite a recent pullback, shares trade around 4,000 yen. The company intends to acquire 10,000 Bitcoin by Q4 2025 and increase its total holdings to 21,000 BTC by the end of 2026.
Metaplanet’s shift towards Bitcoin accumulation has positively impacted its stock prices despite recent fluctuations. The company continues to expand its BTC reserves, aiming to become one of the largest cryptocurrency holders.
