According to a new disclosure, Metaplanet purchased Bitcoin at an average price of around $108,237 per BTC, spending a total of $238.7 million. Following this purchase, the company's total assets increased to 15,555 BTC, approximately worth $1.69 billion based on current market prices.
Ranking of Corporate Bitcoin Holders
According to data from BitcoinTreasuries.NET, Metaplanet ranks as the fifth largest corporate holder of Bitcoin globally, surpassing Tesla, CleanSpark, and Galaxy Digital. It trails only major crypto firms like Marathon Digital, Riot Blockchain, and Strategy.
Metaplanet's Strategy for Accumulating BTC
In 2024, Metaplanet rebranded from a hotel and technology company to a dedicated Bitcoin treasury. The firm aims to accumulate 210,000 BTC, or about 1% of the total supply of 21 million BTC by 2027, aspiring to become one of the largest Bitcoin treasury companies in the world.
Recent investments by Metaplanet reflect a growing trend among companies to increase their Bitcoin holdings. Currently, over 142 publicly traded firms hold Bitcoin, accumulating a total of $92 billion in the cryptocurrency.
