Japanese company Metaplanet announced the acquisition of additional Bitcoin, significantly increasing its holdings. The firm now ranks fifth among publicly traded companies holding virtual assets.

Metaplanet, Japan's largest corporate Bitcoin treasury, announced the purchase of 1,005 BTC for $108.1 million per token, or around $107,601 each. Following this acquisition, the company's total Bitcoin holdings stand at 13,350 BTC, valued at over $1.4 billion.
Metaplanet's Expansion Strategy
The board of directors of Metaplanet has approved the issuance of 0% interest ordinary bonds worth $208 million. These funds will be partially used for repurchasing the company's previous debt obligations and purchasing additional Bitcoin. The company aims to escalate its Bitcoin acquisitions.
Future Plans
Metaplanet plans to accumulate 100,000 Bitcoins by the end of 2026 and 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027 as part of its "555 Million plan." Currently, Metaplanet is the largest non-American firm holding Bitcoin, ahead of Hut 8 Mining which holds 10,273 BTC.
