Metaplanet, Japan's leading corporate Bitcoin treasury company, reported purchasing 1,111 BTC, significantly boosting its digital currency assets.
Metaplanet’s Bitcoin Purchase
Metaplanet announced on Monday that it has purchased an additional 1,111 Bitcoin, bringing its total holdings to 11,111 BTC. The company spent 17.26 billion Japanese yen (approximately $117 million), paying an average of just under $105,500 per coin.
Comparison with Tesla and Other Players
Metaplanet’s current holdings allow it to approach Tesla’s Bitcoin stash of 11,509 BTC. Recently, the company moved to become the eighth-largest corporate Bitcoin holder, despite other firms increasing their holdings.
Growing Interest in Bitcoin Among Companies
Recently, there has been a surge in interest in Bitcoin from publicly traded companies. For example, Nakamoto Holdings secured $51.5 million for further Bitcoin purchases, and Parataxis Holdings launched a Bitcoin-native treasury platform in South Korea.
Thus, Metaplanet continues to strengthen its position in the Bitcoin industry, while the increasing number of companies investing in digital currency could significantly impact the market.
