On March 3, 2025, Metaplanet announced the acquisition of 156 BTC for 2 billion yen, increasing its reserves to 2,391 BTC. The total investment amounts to 29.828 billion yen, or about 200 million US dollars. This purchase is part of the 'Bitcoin Treasury Operations' strategy. From October 1 to December 31, 2024, the company's BTC yield grew by 309.8%.
Funding through Shares and Bonds
According to the announcement, Metaplanet funds its Bitcoin strategy through shares and bonds. On January 28, 2025, the board approved the issuance of stock acquisition rights to EVO FUND for a total of 21 million shares, as well as the issuance of the sixth series of zero-coupon bonds worth 4 billion yen, with proceeds allocated to increase Bitcoin reserves.
Metaplanet's Ambitious Targets for 2026
Metaplanet aims to have 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025 and 21,000 BTC by 2026, solidifying its position as the 'Asian version of MicroStrategy.' To achieve this, the company continues with share and bond issuances, including the seventh series of zero-coupon bonds worth 2 billion yen on February 27, 2025.
