Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has announced the acquisition of 2,205 Bitcoin, raising its total holdings to 15,555 BTC, making it one of the largest corporate holders of the cryptocurrency.
Purchase Details
CEO Simon Gerovich shared the acquisition via a post on X. The Bitcoin was purchased for $238.7 million at an average price of $108,237 each. Metaplanet now holds a total of 15,555 BTC, which were procured for about $1.54 billion at $99,307 per unit.
Bitcoin Accumulation Strategy
Metaplanet tracks the success of its Bitcoin strategy using a metric called BTC Yield. Gerovich stated that the firm has achieved a BTC Yield of 416.6% so far in 2025. The recent purchase follows previous acquisitions of 1,234 BTC for $133 million and 1,111 BTC for $118 million, highlighting its aggressive accumulation strategy.
Capital Market Activities
Metaplanet's stock saw modest gains following the news, currently trading at ¥1,568, reflecting a 1.49% increase over the last 24 hours. The stock has risen by 1,854% since last year. The company funds its Bitcoin purchases through stock and bond issuances.
With this latest purchase, Metaplanet has become the fifth-largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, aiming to grow its holdings to 30,000 BTC by the end of the year and 210,000 BTC by 2027.
