Japanese firm Metaplanet has acquired 1,005 BTC for $108 million, making it the fifth-largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, overtaking Cleanspark.
Metaplanet's Bitcoin Purchase
Metaplanet now holds a total of 13,350 BTC, worth approximately $1.45 billion at current market prices. CEO Simon Gerovich stated that the average purchase price for the latest acquisition was $107,601, with a year-to-date Bitcoin yield of 349%.
Bond Refinancing Strategy
The company announced a bond refinancing strategy, issuing 30 billion yen (around $208 million) in zero-percent ordinary bonds. The funds will be used to secure more Bitcoin as well as to buy back and cancel existing bonds.
Market Reaction to Metaplanet's Stocks
After the announcement of increased Bitcoin holdings, Metaplanet's stock price jumped 9%. Since the beginning of 2025, shares have increased by over 350%, attracting investor and analyst attention.
