The Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has significantly increased its Bitcoin holdings, surpassing Tesla. Its current assets total 12,345 BTC.
Increase in Bitcoin Holdings
On Thursday, Metaplanet announced it had acquired 1,234 BTC at around $107,557 per coin. This raised its total Bitcoin holdings to 12,345 BTC at an average price of $98,303. Based on Bitcoin's current market price of $107,460, the company holds approximately $1.3 billion in Bitcoin.
Accumulation Strategy
Metaplanet draws inspiration from Michael Saylor's strategy, funding its Bitcoin purchases through stock and bond sales as part of its '555 million plan' to secure 1% of Bitcoin’s supply. The company aims to accumulate 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027, targeting 30,000 BTC by year-end.
Conclusions and Future Plans
Previously a hotelier, Metaplanet has shifted its focus to building a strategic Bitcoin reserve since 2024. A subsidiary, Metaplanet Treasury Corp, was established on May 1 to boost global operations. The board has approved a capital injection of up to $5 billion to accelerate its BTC acquisition strategy.
Thus, Metaplanet demonstrates an aggressive approach to Bitcoin accumulation, aligning with new strategies and goals for asset development.
