A recent incident involving the hack of the Instagram account of the popular hip-hop group Migos raises concerns regarding the personal data of Raj Gokal, co-founder of the Solana platform.

Overview of the Migos Incident

Hackers compromised the Instagram account of Migos and used it to post personal information of Raj Gokal, including his passport, address, phone number, and details about his wife. The posts containing this data remained live for about 90 minutes, garnering thousands of interactions before being deleted. The modified bio of the account now includes the phrase 'CHECK BIO FOR MEMECOIN,' suggesting illicit activities.

Raj Gokal's Reaction to the Data Leak

Raj Gokal stated that attackers had been attempting to access his social media and email accounts. He refused to pay the demanded ransom of 40 BTC (~$4.4 million) and discovered that his personal information had been published via the hacked Migos account. Quoting Gokal: 'Attackers have been trying to take control of my email, social media, etc. all week. Be vigilant about suspicious activity.'

Context and Coinbase Situation

This incident also coincides with a recent breach at Coinbase, where personal and financial information from at least 69,461 customers was stolen. Cybercriminals utilized social engineering to breach the Coinbase system, highlighting ongoing security issues in both Instagram and other platforms. Following the revelation of the incident, Coinbase is facing legal actions and investigations. The company assured that customer funds, passwords, and wallet data were not compromised.

The Migos Instagram hacking incident raises critical questions about social media security, especially concerning high-profile accounts. Raj Gokal's response and the subsequent events surrounding Coinbase emphasize the need for stronger protections for users' personal information.
