MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a reduction in decoder prices and improved conditions for subscribers aimed at regaining customers.
Price Reduction on Decoders
MultiChoice Nigeria has reduced the price of its decoders from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000. This decision is part of the company's strategy to restore its customer base amid a decline in subscribers.
Free Upgrade for Subscribers
From June 16 to July 31, 2025, MultiChoice will offer its customers a free upgrade to the new DStv package after full payment of their current subscriptions. This initiative is aimed at retaining active subscribers in a market dominated by Netflix and YouTube.
Challenges in the Subscription Market
Over the past two years, MultiChoice has lost 2.8 million subscribers. Factors contributing to the decline include macroeconomic pressures, piracy, and increased competition from streaming services. According to the company, 77% of subscriber losses occurred in the Nigerian market.
The price cuts and new offers by MultiChoice are responses to economic difficulties and declining purchasing power among consumers. The company continues to adapt to changes in the competitive landscape.
