Elon Musk has announced a plan to update his artificial intelligence Grok, which will be reprogrammed to change historical data to eliminate 'garbage' and 'uncorrected data'.
Plans for Grok Update
In a post on X, Musk discussed the upcoming Grok 3.5 model that will feature 'advanced reasoning'. He stated the model will be used to 'rewrite the entire corpus of human knowledge', adding missing information and deleting errors.
Criticism and Concerns
Musk's plan has drawn criticism from experts. Gary Marcus, an AI startup founder and NYU emeritus professor, compared the initiative to a dystopia, saying: 'Straight out of 1984. You couldn’t get Grok to align with your own personal beliefs so you are going to rewrite history to make it conform to your views.' Bernardino Sassoli de' Bianchi, a professor of logic and philosophy of science, expressed concern, stating that 'when powerful billionaires treat history as malleable, we're no longer dealing with innovation — we’re facing narrative control.'
Impact on Public Opinion
As part of his initiative, Musk called on X users to share 'divisive facts' to help train the bot, noting they should be 'politically incorrect, but nonetheless factually true'. User replies included various conspiracy theories and misinformation about vaccines and racial prejudices.
Elon Musk's initiative to update AI Grok for 'rewriting' historical data raises numerous debates and concerns about information control, highlighting important ethical questions.
