YouTube has announced upcoming changes to its monetization policy, effective July 15. The updates are aimed at removing inauthentic content, which concerns many creators.
Changes to YouTube's Monetization Policy
Starting July 15, 2024, YouTube will implement updated rules for its Partner Program (YPP), including the removal of 'inauthentic' content. Inauthentic content is described as 'mass-produced and repetitious,' and will no longer be eligible for ad revenue.
Clarifications from YouTube Management
Rene Ritchie, YouTube's Head of Editorial and Creator Liaison, clarified that reaction videos and similar content will remain monetized. He stated this is a minor update to YPP policies aimed at better identifying when content is considered mass-produced or repetitive.
Impact of AI on Content on the Platform
With the increasing share of AI-generated content on YouTube, data from Zebracat shows that 42% of YouTube Shorts are created with some AI assistance. The platform sees approximately 2.6 million videos uploaded daily, suggesting a significant amount of AI-related content.
YouTube aims to protect its creators and advertisers' trust by removing repetitive content. This update is part of a broader strategy for promoting original content on the platform.
