The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled a new Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) framework aimed at integrating and improving access to government services.
New Digital Services Infrastructure
Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, announced the implementation of DPI, which will enable the government to employ a 'whole-of-government approach' and leverage the private sector to develop public services. This initiative will support citizens throughout their lives via a platform of interoperability across all government services.
Support for Life Events
DPI includes a Life Events initiative, allowing citizens to access government services throughout their lives. This covers birth registration, healthcare, scholarships, and more. The technology aids in data and information exchange between various departments and provides an opportunity for the private sector to build public solutions.
Core Elements of Digital Infrastructure
Key elements of DPI include a Centralized Identity System, a Payment Exchange System, and a Data Exchange Platform. These components ensure accurate identity verification, secure and efficient payment exchanges, and responsible data sharing, thus fostering transparency and enhancing service delivery.
The implementation of DPI aims to improve governance and economic growth in Nigeria by providing accessible and inclusive services, making the country more competitive globally.
