From January 2024 to May 2025, Nigeria has witnessed significant technological activity spurred by federal agencies seeking national development.

Expanding Digital Access and Modernizing Services

In May 2025, the **Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF)** launched the **USPF Impact Alliance** to accelerate the delivery of communication technologies to underserved communities. The fund has already laid 1,259 kilometers of fiber optic cables and connected over 3,700 institutions to broadband internet. In February 2025, USPF handed over a new Emerging Technologies Centre (ETC) to the Ogun State Institute of Technology, equipping it with 100 computers and modern applications.

Transformations in Postal and Identification Management

Starting from July 1, 2025, the **Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST)** will fully transition to a cashless system. In 2024, the service reported a 275% increase in revenue through the implementation of POS terminals. It has also begun licensing logistics companies and signed agreements with other countries to improve transaction processes. Additionally, the **National Identity Management Commission (NIMC)** introduced new identity authentication services and proposed new national identification cards.

Research and Development in Science and Technology

Research institutions like the **National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA)** and the **Computer Professionals Registration Council (CPN)** have implemented several initiatives to support local developments and research. NABDA continues its work on new agricultural crops, while CPN has launched a certification program for digital trainers to improve digital skills in the country. Additionally, the **National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI)** is actively creating new technologies, such as electric tricycles and enhancing solar energy technologies.

Since early 2024, Nigeria has shown active engagement on the state level in technology and innovation initiatives, indicating a commitment to developing a digital economy and strengthening its position on the international stage.
