The National Identification Management Commission (NIMC) has announced the restoration of the SIM swap service on its platform. This comes three weeks after SIM-related services were paused due to a technical transition.
Service Status Update
NIMC announced the restoration of the SIM swap service, which was temporarily unavailable due to technical work. Users can now access the service through their mobile network operators (MNOs). This was reflected in an official notice by NIMC and confirmed by MTN and Airtel.
Telecom Operators Confirmation
Several mobile operators have confirmed the availability of the service. MTN Nigeria and Airtel Nigeria expressed gratitude to NIMC for support in the migration process. MTN noted that those experiencing delays with the service should visit their nearest service center.
Importance of Identity Verification
The NINAuth system, introduced by NIMC, is designed to streamline the identity verification process and enhance data security. It is important to note that while the SIM swap service has been restored, other services such as activation and replacement of SIM cards remain unavailable.
The restoration of the SIM swap service is a crucial step in ensuring uninterrupted access to telecommunications services in Nigeria. However, the need for ongoing work on other related services remains critical.
