Nigeria's Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo responded to reports of a breach in the national identity database, calling it a debatable topic.
Allegations of Database Breach
In June, the Paradigm Initiative reported that the website AnyVerify.com had access to sensitive data, including NIN, BVN, and others, selling it for just 100 naira.
Minister Tunji-Ojo's Reaction
The minister did not directly deny the breach but highlighted the need for further investigation. He emphasized the importance of data protection, underscoring that it is a key priority for the government.
NIMC and NIS Collaboration
The minister stated that NIMC and NIS are fully integrated for tracking citizens' data through national documents, significantly enhancing their protection and reliability.
Tunji-Ojo assured that the government is aware of its responsibility for protecting citizens' data and that all necessary measures are taken to ensure its security.
