The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has released enrollment figures for National Identification Numbers (NIN) as of June 2025, with a total of 121.4 million registrations recorded.
General NIN Enrollment Data
According to NIMC, 7 million new NIN registrations were made in the first half of 2025. This aligns with their commitment to reach 85% registration of Nigeria's population by December 2025. To meet this target, an additional 67 million Nigerians need to be enrolled. Furthermore, it is anticipated that 100 million citizens will be registered by December 2025.
State-wise Enrollment
Data shows that 10 states (Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Ogun, Oyo, Katsina, FCT Abuja, Rivers, Delta, and Jigawa) account for 59 million enrollments, representing 48.62% of the total. Lagos leads with nearly 13 million registrations, followed by Kano with 11 million, Kaduna with 7 million, and so forth. Conversely, states with the lowest enrollment, such as Bayelsa with 791,563 registrations, account for only 0.67% of the nationwide total.
NIN Registration Issues and NIMC Actions
Low NIN enrollment in certain states can be attributed to various factors, including limited awareness, logistical challenges, and access issues to enrollment centers. The NIMC is striving to address these problems, with the Agency's Director-General announcing plans to capture an additional 100 million Nigerians by the end of 2025. Steps have also been taken to collaborate with local organizations to enhance outreach.
Despite challenges such as low public awareness, the NIMC is actively working towards achieving its goal of registering 100 million people by the end of 2025.
