Oasis Network emerged as a project by Dawn Song, a professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UC Berkeley. The token's name, "ROSE", symbolizes the concept of confidentiality, expressed by the Latin phrase "sub rosa", meaning "in secret".

Oasis Network implements confidential smart contracts through Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs). This allows for the creation of applications such as private DeFi platforms, where user data remains hidden during processing. The Sapphire technology represents a confidential version of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), offering developers control over the privacy level of their applications. Furthermore, Oasis supports privacy integration for existing EVM applications, creating conditions for ecosystem expansion.
