Singapore’s OCBC Bank has introduced an innovative blockchain solution for corporate clients, enabling them to invest in tokenized bonds.

New Investment Platform

OCBC Bank has enabled its accredited investors to purchase bond units starting from S$1,000, significantly reducing the traditional minimum of S$250,000. The platform also allows for customization of bond duration and coupon rates, providing more tailored and liquid investment opportunities.

Improved Settlement and Flexibility

The new solution allows investors to reduce settlement times from five days to one. Among the bank's clients is a mid-sized construction firm that diversified its portfolio beyond traditional deposits.

Global Banking Trends

Global banks are exploring the tokenization of financial transactions. Last year, the Reserve Bank of Australia launched consultations for Project Acacia, aimed at exploring tokenized asset markets and CBDC for settlements. In June 2024, Germany's state-owned bank Kreditanstalt fuer Wiederaufbau started using blockchain technology to issue digital bonds.

OCBC Bank continues to advance its blockchain infrastructure, creating a more flexible and efficient environment for corporate investment management.
