OpenAI's ChatGPT underwent a major disruption, preventing users from accessing the platform.

Beginning of the Outage

The ChatGPT service disruption began at 10 AM on Wednesday, February 6. Over 1,400 complaints regarding the disruption were recorded by Downdetector, with more than 98% pointing to ChatGPT issues.

Social Media as an Indicator

Users turned to social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to check if others were experiencing similar issues. Social media has become the go-to platform for confirming widespread disruptions.

Restoration Efforts

The OpenAI status page confirmed the service interruption that affected ChatGPT along with its API and Sora platforms. OpenAI began receiving reports of the disruption at 9:58 AM IST on February 5, providing continuous updates throughout the restoration process. Operational success for API and Sora was achieved by 1:32 AM IST, and by 2:45 AM IST, OpenAI reported complete resolution of ChatGPT along with API and Sora.

The major disruption of ChatGPT has been successfully resolved by OpenAI, allowing them to continue providing uninterrupted service to users.
