Iran-based cryptocurrency exchange Nobitex has been hacked, resulting in the theft of over $73 million in digital assets.
Circumstances of the Hack
According to onchain investigator ZachXBT, the hack was disclosed in a June 18 post on Telegram. Suspicious outflows from multiple Nobitex-linked wallets led to the uncovering of the incident.
Methods of Attack
The attack utilized a "vanity address"—a specific wallet address defined by a user. The initial $49 million was stolen through the address "TKFuckiRGCTerroristsNoBiTEXy2r7mNX", and another address used was "0xffFFfFFffFFffFfFffFFfFfFfFFFFfFfFFFFDead".
Trends in Crypto Hacks
According to CertiK, over $2.1 billion in digital assets have been stolen so far in 2025, primarily due to wallet compromises and operational issues. CertiK co-founder Ronghui Gu noted that most hacks are tied to weaknesses in human behavior.
The Nobitex hack highlights the growing security concerns in the crypto industry, stressing the need for improved security measures and user awareness.
