Panama has launched an initiative to educate lawmakers and advisors on cryptocurrency and blockchain principles to create informed regulatory frameworks.
Training for Lawmakers
Panama faces significant challenges relating to virtual assets due to a lack of technical understanding and limited experience among its citizens. However, the country aims to become a leader in cryptocurrency adoption in Latin America, leveraging its history as a financial hub.
Program and Training Content
Participants in the workshops learn to use digital wallets, understand the importance of seed phrases, and explore blockchain functionality through Bitcoin transactions. The training also covers various cryptocurrency use cases and user profiles and operational and compliance processes from the Panamanian startup Lulubit.
Development of Crypto Ecosystem in Panama
Rodrigo Icaza from the Digital and Blockchain Commerce Chamber noted that since 2016, Panama's crypto ecosystem has evolved significantly. Nevertheless, further efforts are needed to achieve greater competitiveness.
Panama aims to not only meet international recommendations but also develop its unique cryptocurrency regulation, which could contribute to the country's development, competitiveness, and open market.
