Telegram founder Pavel Durov has received permission from a French court to temporarily leave the country and head to Dubai.
Court Permission for Departure
The French court granted Pavel Durov's request to change the terms of his supervision, allowing him to leave France for several weeks and travel to Dubai.
Charges and Supervision
In August 2024, Durov was arrested in France on charges related to the distribution of child pornography and other illegal activities via Telegram. After more than 80 hours in custody, he was released on bail of €5 million and placed under judicial supervision with a ban on leaving the country.
Dubai Sanctuary
Dubai, known for its business-friendly environment and lack of extradition treaties with many countries, became Durov's temporary home during his time away from France.
While the criminal case against Pavel Durov is not expected to be heard in court for the next year, his temporary stay in Dubai offers him a chance to focus on his projects and improve Telegram's moderation.
