A recent Pentagon audit revealed a lack of control over $824 billion, indicating serious financial management issues within the Department of Defense.
Pentagon Audit: Results and Losses
The Department of Defense audit showed that out of $4.1 trillion in assets and $4.3 trillion in liabilities, only nine entities passed the audit. One received a 'qualified' rating while the remaining fifteen failed. This includes the Marine Corps, Defense Logistics Agency, and DoD Office of Inspector General, which have not yet submitted their reports.
Spending That Raises Questions
Sean Parnell, assistant to the secretary of Defense, highlighted contracts he deemed wasteful. Among them were $1.9 million projects unrelated to military functions. Parnell pointed out plans to cut unnecessary spending to enhance defense.
D.O.G.E Funding
D.O.G.E aims to boost government efficiency but receives $4 million for work with the Office of Personnel Management. The agreement requires the office to cover full-time salaries and provide data and systems access.
The audit exposed significant issues in Pentagon's financial management. D.O.G.E and other agencies are working on improvements despite critiques and funding questions.
