Pi Network has updated its verification system, transitioning to email-based two-factor authentication (2FA) to overcome phone number verification limitations.
Challenges of Phone Number Verification
Since its inception, Pi Network relied on phone numbers for user identification, but faced limitations with SMS delivery. According to the Pi Network blog, the global community revealed weaknesses in SMS systems relying on local telecom rules, carrier policies, and individual service subscriptions.
Transition to Email-Based 2FA
To resolve logistical issues with SMS and improve security, Pi Network has shifted to email-based 2FA. This requires additional verification through a code sent to users' email. The shift aligns with the broader vision of using advanced authentication methods. The Pi blog explains that email-based 2FA not only addresses challenges but also enhances security with its two-factor nature.
Implementation and Migration Plans
The move to email-based 2FA presents challenges as email was not required for account creation. Before implementation, Pi conducted analyses and system checks on adding and verifying trusted emails. Migrations were temporarily paused for security. Now, migrations have resumed and will expand as 2FA setups and system checks complete.
Pi Network's switch to email 2FA marks a new chapter in its development, providing higher security and flexible account management. This update reflects Pi Network's commitment to securing its position in the cryptocurrency space through advanced technology.
