On March 13, 2025, Pi Network introduced two-factor authentication, aimed at enhancing the security of accounts and Pi coins for its users.
What is Two-Factor Authentication?
Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an extra layer of security that helps confirm that the Pi Wallet you’re sending your Pi to, belongs to you. It achieves this by linking your account to a trusted email address that only you control.
Setting Up a Trusted Email
To use 2FA, a trusted email address is required. If you already have one linked to your account, you can start the authentication process. If not, you'll need to add one. The Pi mining app will ask you to perform a 'liveness check' to confirm that you are a real person and own the email address.
Completing 2FA and Its Importance
Users migrating their Pi to the Mainnet must complete 2FA. Without completing 2FA within the 14-day waiting period, your Pi might be sent back to the mining app as a safety measure.
Two-factor authentication in Pi Network is aimed at protecting users. It ensures safe migration of Pi coins and minimizes risks for users.
