On March 13, 2025, Pi Network introduced two-factor authentication (2FA) to safeguard Pioneers' accounts and Pi coins during migration to the open Pi network.
Why Two-Factor Authentication is Needed
Two-factor authentication provides an extra security layer, ensuring that the Pi Wallet belongs to you by linking it to a trusted email address under your control.
Setting Up a Trusted Email for 2FA
To use 2FA, a trusted email is required. If already linked, it can initiate 2FA. If not, the app will require a liveness check. This trusted email is also crucial for account recovery.
Consequences of Not Using 2FA
There's a 14-day waiting period during migration. Without 2FA, your Pi might be sent back for safety measures. Completing 2FA ensures migration without interruptions.
The implementation of 2FA and return process helps Pi Network protect users' coins and accounts, ensuring that their Pi ends up in the right hands.
