Following the successful launch of its mainnet, Pi Network has released updates focusing on mainnet migrations and account verifications.
Switching to Email-Based Authentication
Originally, Pi Network used phone numbers for user verification. However, this SMS-based system caused issues due to varying telecom standards and unreliable delivery. To address these problems, Pi Network is transitioning to email-based authentication, enhancing security and eliminating SMS-related challenges. Alongside existing KYC checks, this change enables future security improvements like passkeys and biometric authentication.
Making Mainnet Migrations More Secure
On March 13, 2025, Pi Network implemented a two-factor authentication (2FA) requirement, mandating its completion before Pi coins are migrated to the blockchain. The switch to email-based verification posed challenges as users may have unlinked or outdated emails. Pi Network temporarily paused migrations to review the verification process, adding extra steps where necessary to ensure security.
Migrations Resume
With security checks completed, Pi Network has resumed mainnet migrations, implementing them gradually to prevent issues. Pioneers can now verify emails and complete any pending authentication steps.
Pi Network's updates aim to improve security and reliability of processes, ensuring network participants secure access to their accounts.
